Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival,” “Blade Runner 2049”) directs Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “Dune,” the big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal bestseller of the same name.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence-a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential-only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

The film stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name,” “Little Women”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep,” “Mission: Impossible - Fallout”), Oscar Isaac (the “Star Wars” franchise) Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Milk,” “Avengers: Infinity War”), Stellan Skarsgård (HBO’s “Chernobyl,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Avengers: Endgame”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Fences,” “Lady Bird”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” HBO’s “Euphoria”), Chang Chen (“Mr. Long,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), David Dastmalchian (“Blade Runner 2049,” “The Dark Knight”), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Netflix’s “Sex Education”), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), with Jason Momoa (“Aquaman,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall”).

Villeneuve directed “Dune” from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts and Villeneuve and Eric Roth based on the novel of the same name written by Frank Herbert. Villeneuve also produced the film with Mary Parent, Cale Boyter and Joe Caracciolo, Jr. The executive producers are Tanya Lapointe, Joshua Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert.

Behind the scenes, Villeneuve reteamed with two-time Oscar-nominated production designer Patrice Vermette (“Arrival,” “Sicario,” “The Young Victoria”), two-time Oscar-nominated editor Joe Walker (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Arrival,” “12 Years a Slave”), two-time Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert (“First Man,” “Blade Runner 2049”), and Oscar-winning special effects supervisor Gerd Nefzer (“Blade Runner 2049”). He also collaborated for the first time with Oscar-nominated director of photography Greig Fraser (“Lion,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”); three-time Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West (“The Revenant,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Quills”) and costume designer Robert Morgan; and stunt coordinator Tom Struthers (“The Dark Knight” trilogy, “Inception”). Oscar-winning and multiple Oscar-nominated composer Hans Zimmer (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Inception,” “Gladiator,” “The Lion King”) is creating the score.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Present a Legendary Pictures Production, a Film by Denis Villeneuve, “Dune.” The film is slated to be released in select theaters in 2D and 3D and IMAX and on HBO Max on October 22, 2021 and will be available on HBO Max’s Ad-Free plan in 4K UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos (English Only) on supported devices for 31 days from theatrical release.

The film has been rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, some disturbing images and suggestive material.

Cracking wisecracks. Big CGI “action” scenes. Weird casting choices. Nah, I’ll stick with Lynch’s flawed but artistic and epic Dune. And I say this having loved Arrival and Blace Runner 2049….

Anyone figure out what this trailer is warning us of? Dune is Paul Atreides', hero's journey. His arc is always from just a bit cocky but unsure, and not showing it, almost ready, but deals with it in the moment, then righteous anger and world changing charisma. There is not one scene in this trailer where the lead, Timothée Chalamet, isn't taking second to the rest of the cast. I fear this is a classic, "we are going to wedge an attractive young actor into a HUGE role and make him a star." You don't make stars. So now the "Official Main Trailer" leads with a proven actress. We don't see him until 40 seconds, he gets dissed badly, and vanishes for a while. Why did they delay this a couple weeks? Editors are trying to save a movie... sigh.. Look at the emotion in the eyes of Zendaya changing scene by scene, then his chronic "sad and lost boy eyes" scene after scene. Paul sad to have no muscles Paul sad to be upset about his family Paul sad to have a dagger in his hands Paul sad that is not really able to show anger. This trailer creates too many director / lead questions for me. Glad it is streaming on a service I have. I have been waiting for this for years, but too much fear that someone had a "star maker" agenda vs a make Dune right agenda. The trailer editors had a real problem finding any place where the lead anchors the moment. A) Worst cut trailer B) Visually amazing movie with cutting edge effects, an awesome cast, and a weak lead, because someone's mandate was to make him the next...... Hope I am wrong, but this trailer does not say, we have given you Paul as written, as the story demands. We have given you "sad boy" lost in a big movie.

Well, outside of the action movie, superhero bubble, Chalamet is already a star. He was nominated for an Oscar when he was 20 or 21. He just got the spotlight in Cannes for The French Dispatch and will probably get another Academy Award nomination for that film alone. Let's see if he can prove himself in a different role like Paul Atreides. Villeneuve doesn't have any agenda to prop up Chalamet's career either. He cast him for the role because he was sure he was his Paul and didn't even audition any other actor. Since this is his movie, I must assume he knows what he wants and what he is doing.

This trailer is fantastic! Dune 2021 should be a blockbuster. Yesterday, someone from WB claimed a video that Quinn posted on his FRwatch channel "Quinn's Ideas". Quinn, if you do not know, has for several years been hyping Dune 2021 as one of the biggest movies for decades. Quinn's video was full of praise for the Dune trailer as being absolutely amazing. He was praising the actors and actresses in the movie. He was creating positive buzz for the upcoming film in a way that few other people could do. WB was getting the best form of advertising that exists. His extremely high praise will bring many people to the box office to see Dune when it opens. Why would someone from WB claim his video for copyright issues. Whoever at WB made this decision stabbed one of Dune's biggest fans in the back yesterday by claiming his video. If you do this sort of thing, you will alienate the fan base that is currently building in large part because of the positive buzz that FRwatch creators are producing. Please do not destroy your fan base as it is building. I want to see Dune 2021 be very successful so that there can be more movies to tell more of the Dune sage. Warner Brothers can hurt this movie by alienating the fan base. Please do whatever you can to keep the most ardent Dune fans producing positive hype. An please reverse the claim on Quinn's video.

Dune is a 6 part series of books written by Frank Herbert that has inspired a lot of Sci-fi for the past 60 some odd years. I know George Lucas has said that without Frank Herberts original novel Dune (1965) that he would have never had made Star Wars.

Warner brothers and Denis Villeneuve have already announced that book 1 will be divided into 2 movies. I just hope that Warner brothers doesn’t just leave us with book 1 (the two movies) and call it quits. A lot of fans of the Dune series have been waiting nearly 60 years for a good live action adaptation of Frank Herberts 6 book original sci-fi series. I would like them to at least get to book 4 (God Emperor of Dune).

My only hope is that Warner Brothers goes beyond these 2 movies (book 1) and gives us a Dune Cinematic universe with the other 6 books written by Frank Herbert. Things get weird towards God emperor of Dune (book 4). I think Dune has been long overdue for a movies series so we as fans need to show up in numbers to let WB know that we want them to show us more from this property. Its what Frank Herbert would have wanted for his Classic series.
